Mivar Automotive and EasyBook tablet pc from PaceBlade

I visited Mivar Automotive on Autovak RAI 2007 and had a chat with Peter Odding. They are going to introduce their software for car collection on a tablet pc. The EasyBook of PaceBlade (disclosure: paceblade is a subsidiary of Tulip Computers, my employer). So again, this is a nice case. The software is originally developped for a PDA, but customers ask for a larger device (but not too large). And a lot of them want to skip the paperwork when a rented or leased car is inspected after returning.
He thinks a tablet is a great device because it is more robust compared to a PDA. And because it is a real pc it is easy to communicate (wireless) with the backoffice and other software. The camera is very handy when you want to record the damage for your electronic file.
Nice to see that the video of Le Mans Damage Company which I produced was installed on the easybook and shown to customers on the fair. I also saw some photos their which I took at Le Mans.
In this video you can hear Peter Odding talking about the tablet pc and his software. Because it is in Dutch you can find English subtitles on it.

Dutch handwritingrecognition in English Vista? Yes!! (screencast)

Wacom tablet
Yesterday Stan Segers from ReSQqueL (his weblog: My Torn datapages) brought me his Wacom tablet. A kind of drawing tablet, so not a tablet PC. But interesting enough to try the handwritingfeature and installing options in Windows Vista.

Installation
The installationin Vista was just plug & play. Inserting the cable in the usb connector and Vista recognised the device and installed the drivers. After that I had to install a driver for automatic calibration of the tablet with the screensize. This driver is over here. Important remark: it is on the American website and not the European one! After installing this driver/app which was done automatically after downloading eveything worked fine.

Handwritingrecognition: Dutch language in English Vista!
And now the most exciting new! I can use dutch handwriting recognition in my english Vista without installing one bit. All the language for handwritingrecognition are already in Vista. Just a matter of setting the right checks in the control panel!

Because some people asked for it I produced an engish version of the Le Mans and PaceBlade video. You can find it in dutch in this posting. Ok, Jack is still talking dutch, but now you can read what he is talking about. I put some titles in english on those screens which are important. I hope you like it.

The PaceBlade EasyBook
You can see Jack Tensen at work in his company Le Mans Car Damage. He is showing us the use of the EasyBook tablet pc of PaceBlade. All damage is entered in the tablet pc via a wi-fi connection. And you can see that all parts, images, details and specifications are used with the tablet pc. It takes half of the time comparing with paperwork and his calculations are without mistakes.

Hallo, wellicht kom je hier via het artikel in Emerce nummer 65 van maart 2007 over Screencasts. Dan ben je hier aan het goede adres. Op deze blog heb ik een aantal screencasts staan. Neus maar eens rond. Rechts vind je de categorieën waarin ik ze gesorteerd heb.
Ik heb ook nog een andere blog waar ik veel met screencasts werk. Daar leg ik ook veel uit over de techniek.
Je vindt daar een categorie: Screencasting: reflections. Dat zijn dus experimenten met uitleg erbij. De categorie Screencastings: tutorials bevat de screencasts zelf. Veel ervan kom je hier ook tegen.
Een veel bekeken screencast is de MSN Messenger screencast. Ik heb die in 3 versies gemaakt: flash, quicktime en windows media.
In ieder geval veel plezier hier en hopelijk zie ik je ook op mijn Hans on Experience blog.

Dell in Second Life

Persconferentie van Dell in Second Life
Ze hebben er een eiland. Nou eigenlijk zijn het er meer. Een groepje eilanden bij elkaar. Ik las dat zojuist bij Neville Hobson. Hij was op een persconferentie georganiseerd door Dell. Jawel, in Second Life. In-world heet dat. Dus een virtuele persconferentie. CNET en Reuters waren er ook en kennelijk nogal wat andere influentials. Tegelijkertijd werd er ook een persconferentie gehouden in real life (zoals dat volgens mij heet).

Dell Islands
Ik heb even rondgekeken op die eilanden van Dell. Je kunt er komen door op Dell Island te zoeken in Second Life of deze coördinaten te gebruiken: 178,73,24. Je kunt er je eigen PC ontwerpen. Volgens Neville gaat het nu nog maar om een laptop die je alleen in de VS kunt aanschaffen. Maar dat worden er natuurlijk meer, dat lijkt me duidelijk. Die pc's worden verkocht aan de inhabitants van Second Life. Nee niet virtueel. Je krijgt de pc dan opgestuurd! Echte handel dus.
Op het tweede eiland kom je in een soort park terecht waarin ook wat uitleg staat over Second Life. Wel handig, want ik ben er nog niet zo bedreven in. Ik gelijk ook even mijn 'appearance' aangepast. Op die borden in dat park wordt uitgelegd hoe je dat kunt doen. Training on the job dus Wel gaaf om daar even rond te lopen.
Op het derde eiland staat het hoofdkantoor van Dell. Je kunt daar ook naar binnen maar kwam daar nog niet veel mensen tegen.

Harvard training in Second Life (screencast ipod versie)

Ik hoorde van Ton Zijlstra dat Harvard ook cursus geeft in Second Life. Ik heb me vorige week aangemeld in Second Life en ben dus eens gaan kijken. Van mijn ervaringen heb ik een korte screencast gemaakt, die je hieronder vindt. Ik heb begrepen dat er ook regelmatif een soort life sessie plaats vinden. Toch eens in de gaten houden. Ik ga als ik wat meer tijd heb eens uitgebreider kijken naar training en Second Life. Ik denk dat we daar mee van gaan zien.

De ongekende mogelijkheden van screencasting: interview op Webwereld

Ik had laatst een interview met Laurens Lammers van Webwereld. We hadden het over screencasting en wat daar mee samen hangt. Dat interview staat nu op Webwereld zag ik: De ongekende mogelijkheden van screencasting. Het aantal bezoekers nam namelijk ineens explosief toe
Jammer dat hij mijn naam niet goed heeft geschreven. Ik heet natuurlijk Hans Mestrum in plaats van Hans van Mestrum .
Leuk ook dat hij Pierre Gorissen en Jaap Stronks in dit artikel aan haalt. Ik had ze namelijk doorgegeven als interessante mensen om mee te praten over dit onderwerp.
